CHALLENGE

Nordfyns Kommune aimed to mobilize the entire organization in the work with vision and strategies. The focus was on dialogue across organizational silos and on strengthening cooperation on strategy realization in a dynamic process between the political, administrative and professional management levels.

SOLUTION

The organization tested the strategic direction through concrete trial actions. These actions were led by municipal leaders in collaboration with citizens and local communities, focusing on new collaborations between primary school teachers and healthcare professionals to improve well-being, learning, and health. For instance, in a trial action in the primary school sector, the focus was on reducing childhood obesity by initiating more high-intensity physical activities. During these trial actions, politicians, directors, and leaders experienced that it is possible to mobilize common engagement and significant initiative collectively.

RESULT

The municipality experimented with adding four extra physical education hours to the curriculum. The Youth Council and Senior Council jointly developed an idea catalog with ideas for cross-generational communities. The municipality developed a holistic case management approach focusing on early detection of vulnerable children in daycare centers, and various citizen groups provided ideas to the municipality based on their experiences of life in Nordfyn
